Free stream military wives pictures. Free Stream Military widespread. Military Wives was just absolutely brilliant. From the moment it started to the rolling credits, I did not move, I was 100% enthralled with the characters and the relationships they had. I cried many many times throughout, found bits heartbreaking, but still I came away feeling lighter with a warm glow inside.
I laughed, I cried and I cried some more. The last film I saw that was that moving, was Kramer vs Kramer. I loved it.

Attended the world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday. Honestly one of top 10 best films I've ever seen. Perfect mix of pathos (not sure I've ever cried more in a film 😳) laugh out loud humour and great music. Military Wives is as formulaic as movies go, regardless the film is surprisingly good and it uses the formula really well. However it never aspires to be anything else preventing it from becoming a classic amongst the genre.
I haven't been familiar with the true story but from the start, you just know where it is all gonna go. It still works well but nothing is a surprise because of that. It still has some great moments and a fair amount of heart
It is seriously enjoyable and it is a likeable movie with a great cast. Kristen Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan are great here.
I'm sure there are many people who will like this film. I just can't see that much greatness in it. It's formulaic and does it's best to be a lovely and charming film but it does it in such a manipulative way, and I hate it when films do that. It is still worth watching though.

Military wives downloads. I have read several of your comments, and they seem self indulgent, and motivated by hate.  Comments here seem to try to demonize military wives, and their husbands/boyfriends that serve their country, and if necessary, put their lives on the line for the greater good of all.  You may attempt to trivialize and politicize the sacrifices that the wives and children endure, but you just show how little you care for others, and how self centered you are.  Remember, the world does not revolve around you.  God bless those who volunteer (and their families) to keep you safe.

Not to mention, she will support you, take care of the kids and home, try to keep you in touch with your family, make sure the bills get paid, saves money during deployments instead of blowing it, stays faithful, and continues to better herself.

  • British trenches somewhere in France. World war has been going on for the third year, heroic illusions have dissipated; general mood - boredom and fatigue. Stuff the belly, sleep, return home to Christmas Eve. On another quiet day, when nothing happens, two young soldiers, Blake and Schofield, are summoned to the general, who instructs them to send an important message to Colonel MacKenzie in the Second Devonshire Battalion, whose telephone connection was cut off by the enemy
  • director=Sam Mendes

Early in the movie I got the feeling that I was watching lord of the rings. How Frodo and Sam wise had to traverse the dangerous areas and risks. Been wanting to see 1917. Hope I can get to the theater soon. Battlefield 1 is literally the best BF game along with BF4. Last night COL Ferry and I (COL Coldwell, both USA) were able to watch the new WWI film, 1917, before it has national release. It is a cinematographic feast for the eyes, long expansive shots that follow the protagonists as they execute their mission. It does not hide the horrors that existed in trench warfare, it shows them for their brutality and abundance. (My great uncle died as a consequence of his service fighting in the trenches, mustard gas poisoning. In many ways it reminded me of Saving Private Ryan.
For those who have served in combat (I have deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan) I cannot tell you if the film will be too difficult to watch, it might well be, especially if incoming artillery is a trigger. For me, as the camera travels a few inches above the dirt advancing slowly up a berm, my response was visceral. I was taken back to the patrols we walked in Afghanistan, not knowing what was around the corner; not relaxing heightened vigilance, not knowing if there would be an IED, a child wearing a suicide vest, a sniper taking aim. For the protagonists in this film (as for all who served and are serving) surviving the climb up the berm, there is no sigh of relief, no respite from the fear of uncertainty. They (we) survive to move forward to face more uncertainty.
Watching allowed me to pay homage to my great uncle, and the approximate 800,000 other Brits who were killed or died as a consequence of their service. (Germany lost over 2 million soldiers in the war. Estimates put the total casualty numbers for both military and civilians at 40 million, half killed or died from wounds/infection.
I rate this film as 10/10, for many reasons. Directing, acting, set design, cinematography, musical score, the raw emotion it invokes. Some critics have said they never felt a connection with the characters, I suspect they never served in combat. While the brotherhood (including female War Fighters) is strong, there is also a common characteristic possessed by all War Fighters, the ability to focus on a mission and suppress emotion, even as those around the Fighter fall. This was the quality I recognized in the actors and why the viewer doesn't "bond" with the main protagonists; we, the viewer, were on the mission with them, we grieve as we can and move on.
Watch if you will, but know there is no pleasure in watching and the film will grab you and the beginning and not let you go. Even though we know the outcome of WWI, there is no joy, there is no peace. Watch because it will allow you a glimpse at the horror and brutality of war; reflect on their service and sacrifice. Note, as we (the viewer) are "walking" through the trenches, glancing shots of the young soldiers shows them with flat affect, isolation, almost apathy; this is the face of "shell shock, what we know call post-traumatic stress disorder.
For original WW1 footage, watch "They Shall Never Grow Old, an exceptional documentary.

Ter uma guerra mundial e 21 anos ter outra é sacanagem com os caras kkkkkk. 0:08 wrong. When you sleep thats a cut into the morning.

There is no way this movie get not the Oscar for best camera. Everyone in the cinema was quiet the whole time but I just saw the dude chasing him with the rifle and I started laughing. 很喜歡這部電影的拍攝方式,像跟在主角的後面闖關,挺刺激的. 還有那個托曼好像變胖了. There is just one scene. 1917 UK theatrical release poster Directed by Sam Mendes Produced by Sam Mendes Pippa Harris Jayne-Ann Tenggren Callum McDougall Brian Oliver Written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns Starring George MacKay Dean-Charles Chapman Mark Strong Andrew Scott Richard Madden Claire Duburcq Colin Firth Benedict Cumberbatch Music by Thomas Newman Cinematography Roger Deakins Edited by Lee Smith Production company DreamWorks Pictures Reliance Entertainment New Republic Pictures Mogambo Neal Street Productions Amblin Partners Distributed by Universal Pictures (United States) Entertainment One Films (United Kingdom) Release date 4 December 2019 (London) 25 December 2019 (United States) 10 January 2020 (United Kingdom) Running time 119 minutes [1] Country United Kingdom United States Language English Budget $90–100 million [2] [3] Box office $363. 8 million [4] [5] 1917 is a 2019 British epic war film directed, co-written, and produced by Sam Mendes. The film stars George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman, with Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch in supporting roles. It is based in part on an account told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Mendes. [6] The film tells the story of two young British soldiers during the First World War who are ordered to deliver a message calling off an attack doomed to fail soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich in 1917. This message is especially important to one of the young soldiers, as his brother is taking part in the pending attack. The project was officially announced in June 2018, with MacKay and Chapman signing on in October and the rest of the cast the following March. Filming took place from April to June 2019 in the UK, with cinematographer Roger Deakins and editor Lee Smith using long takes to have the entire film appear as one continuous shot. [7] [8] [9] 1917 premiered in the UK on 4 December 2019 and was released theatrically in the United States on 25 December by Universal Pictures and in the United Kingdom on 10 January 2020 by Entertainment One Films. The film received praise for Mendes's direction, the performances, cinematography, musical score, editing, sound design, and realism. Among its accolades, the film received ten nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won three, including Best Cinematography. It also won Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, and at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards won a leading seven, including Best Film and Best Direction. It also won the Producers Guild of America Award for Best Theatrical Motion Picture, and Mendes won the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – Feature Film. Plot [ edit] On 6 April 1917, aerial reconnaissance has observed that the German army, which has pulled back from a sector of the Western Front in northern France, is not in retreat but has made a strategic withdrawal to the new Hindenburg Line, where they are waiting to overwhelm the British with artillery. In the British trenches, with field telephone lines cut, two young British soldiers, Lance Corporals William Schofield, a veteran of the Somme, and Tom Blake, are ordered by General Erinmore to carry a message to Colonel Mackenzie of the Second Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment, calling off a scheduled attack that would jeopardise the lives of 1, 600 men, including Blake's brother Lieutenant Joseph Blake. Schofield and Blake cross no man's land to reach the abandoned German trenches. In an underground barracks, they discover a booby-trap tripwire, which is promptly triggered by a rat. The explosion almost kills Schofield, but Blake saves him, and the two escape. They arrive at an abandoned farmhouse, where they witness a German plane being shot down. Schofield and Blake rescue the German pilot from the burning plane. However, the pilot stabs Blake and is shot dead by Schofield. Schofield comforts Blake as he dies, promising to complete the mission and to write to Blake's mother. Schofield is then picked up by a passing British unit. A destroyed canal bridge near Écoust-Saint-Mein prevents the British lorries from crossing. Schofield chooses to part with them at the bridge, but before he does, one of the unit's officers Captain Smith, warns Schofield that Colonel Mackenzie is someone who would rather fight than follow orders. He then uses what is left of the bridge to cross alone, and quickly comes under fire from a German sniper. He and the sniper shoot each other simultaneously; the sniper is killed, while Schofield is knocked unconscious. He regains consciousness at night, and finds the town in flames. He encounters another German soldier, and escapes by hiding in the basement of an abandoned building, where he stumbles into the hiding place of a French woman with an infant. She treats his wounds, and he comforts the infant by reciting "The Jumblies" by Edward Lear, giving the woman his canned food and milk from the farm. Despite her pleas, Schofield leaves soon after, realising that it is morning. After strangling one German soldier and pushing past another who is inebriated, he escapes by jumping into a river. He is swept over a waterfall before reaching the riverbank. In the forest, he finds D Company of the 2nd Devons, which is in the last wave of the attack. As the company starts to move toward the front, Schofield tries to reach Colonel Mackenzie. Realising that the trenches are too crowded for him to make it to Mackenzie in time, Schofield sprints across the open battlefield, just as the infantry begins its charge. He forces his way into meeting Mackenzie, who reads the message and reluctantly calls off the attack. Mackenzie says that, while the cancellation offers a temporary reprieve, command will likely change its orders in a week. Schofield is told that Joseph was in the first wave, and he searches for him among the wounded, finding him unscathed. Joseph is upset to hear of his brother's death, but thanks Schofield for his efforts. Schofield gives Joseph his brother's rings and dog tag, and asks to write to their mother about Blake's heroics, to which Joseph agrees. Exhausted, Schofield sits under a tree, looking at photographs of his wife and two daughters. Cast [ edit] Production [ edit] Development and casting [ edit] Amblin Partners and New Republic Pictures were announced to have acquired the project in June 2018, with Sam Mendes directing, and co-writing the screenplay alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns. [10] Tom Holland was reported to be in talks for the film in September 2018, though ultimately was not involved, [11] and in October, Roger Deakins was set to reunite with Mendes as cinematographer. [12] George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman entered negotiations to star the same month. [13] Thomas Newman was hired to compose the score in March 2019. [14] The same month, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Richard Madden, Andrew Scott, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Jamie Parker, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Claire Duburcq joined the cast in supporting roles. [15] Writing [ edit] In August 2019, Mendes stated, "It's the story of a messenger who has a message to carry. And that's all I can say. It lodged with me as a child, this story or this fragment and obviously I've enlarged it significantly. But it has that at its core. " [16] In Time in 2020, Mendes stated that the writing involved some risk-taking: "I took a calculated gamble, and I'm pleased I did because of the energy you get just from driving forward (in the narrative), in a war that was fundamentally about paralysis and stasis. " The ideas for a script, which Mendes wrote with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, came from the story that Mendes's grandfather, Alfred Mendes, a native of Trinidad who was a messenger for the British on the Western Front, had told him. [17] Mendes stated: "I felt an obligation to honour my grandfather. It's important to remember they were fighting for a free and unified Europe. Good to be reminded of that now. " [18] Filming [ edit] Roger Deakins was the cinematographer for the film, reuniting with Mendes for their fourth collaboration, having first worked together on Jarhead in 2005. [17] Filming was accomplished with long takes and elaborately choreographed moving camera shots to give the effect of two continuous takes. [7] [8] Although media accounts often refer to the story as being told in only one shot, [19] [20] the story cuts to black one hour and six minutes into the film, when Schofield is knocked unconscious, and fades in upon his regaining consciousness after night has fallen. [9] Mendes explained, "it was to do with the fact that I wanted the movie to go from afternoon to dusk, and then from night into dawn. I wanted it to be in two movements... I wanted to take it somewhere more like a hallucination. Somewhere more surreal, almost dream-like. And horrifying too". [7] 1917 was the first film to be shot with the Arri Alexa Mini LF digital cinema camera. Deakins wanted to use a camera with a large format image sensor, but thought that the original Alexa LF was too large and heavy to capture the intimate shots he wanted. Arri provided him with a prototype of the Mini LF two months before filming was set to begin, and two more cameras a week before. [21] [22] His lenses were Arri Signature Primes, of which he used three focal lengths: a 40 mm lens for most of the film, a wider 35 mm for scenes in the tunnels and bunkers, to emphasise feelings of claustrophobia, [22] and a narrower 47 mm in the river, to lose some of the background. [23] Filming began on 1 April 2019 and continued through June 2019 in Wiltshire, Hankley Common in Surrey and Govan, Scotland, as well as at Shepperton Studios. [24] [25] [26] [27] Concern was raised about filming on Salisbury Plain by conservationists who felt the production could disturb potentially undiscovered remains, requesting a survey before any set construction began. [28] [29] Some shots required the use of as many as 500 background extras. [2] Sections of the film were also shot near Low Force, on the River Tees, Teesdale in June 2019. The production staff had to install signs warning walkers in the area not to be alarmed at the prosthetic bodies strewn around the site. [30] Music [ edit] Release [ edit] The film premiered on 4 December 2019 at the 2019 Royal Film Performance. [31] The film began a limited release in the United States and Canada on 25 December 2019 in eleven venues. This made it eligible for 2020 awards, including the 77th Golden Globes, held on 5 January 2020, where the film won both the Golden Globe for Best Dramatic Motion Picture and Best Director for Mendes. [32] Home media [ edit] 1917 is scheduled to be released on Digital HD on 10 March 2020 and on DVD, Blu-ray, and Ultra HD Blu-ray on 24 March 2020. [33] Reception [ edit] Box office [ edit] As of 6 March 2020, 1917 has grossed $157. 3 million in the United States and Canada and $206. 5 million in other countries, for a worldwide total of $363. 8 million, [4] against a production budget of $90–100 million. [2] [3] In the US, the film made $251, 000 from 11 venues on its first day of limited release. [34] It went on to have a limited opening weekend of $570, 000, and a five-day gross of $1 million, for an average of $91, 636 per-venue. [35] The film would go on to make a total of $2. 7 million over its 15 days of limited release. It then expanded wide on 10 January, making $14 million on its first day, including $3. 25 million from Thursday night previews. It went on to gross $36. 5 million for the weekend (beating the original projections of $25 million), becoming the first film to dethrone Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at the box office. [36] In its second weekend of wide release the film made $22 million (and $26. 8 million over the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday), finishing second behind newcomer Bad Boys for Life. [37] It then made $15. 8 million and $7. 7 million the following two weekends, remaining in second both times. [38] [39] The weekend of the Academy Awards the film made $9. 2 million, and the weekend after its three wins made $8. 1 million. [40] [41] Critical response [ edit] Professional ratings Aggregate scores Source Rating Metacritic 78/100 [42] Rotten Tomatoes 89% [43] Review scores Source Rating Empire [44] The Guardian [45] On review aggregation Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 89% based on 398 reviews, with an average rating of 8. 38/10. The website's critics consensus reads, "Hard-hitting, immersive, and an impressive technical achievement, 1917 captures the trench warfare of World War I with raw, startling immediacy". [43] Metacritic assigned the film a weighted average score of 78 out of 100 based on 57 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews". [42] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A−" on an A+ to F scale, and PostTrak reported it received an average 4. 5 out of 5 from viewers, with 69% of people saying they would definitely recommend it. [36] Several critics named the film among the best of 2019, including Kate Erbland of IndieWire [46] and Sheri Linden of The Hollywood Reporter. [47] Karl Vick, writing for Time magazine, found the film to stand up favourably when compared to Stanley Kubrick 's WWI film Paths of Glory, stating, "motion pictures do require a certain amount of motion, and the major accomplishment of 1917, the latest film to join the canon, may be that its makers figured out what the generals could not: a way to advance. " [17] Rubin Safaya of described the movie as "a visceral experience and visual masterclass". [48] Writing for the Hindustan Times, Rohan Naahar stated, "I can only imagine the effect 1917 will have on audiences that aren't familiar with the techniques Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins are about to unleash upon them. " [49] In his review for NPR, Justin Chang was less positive. He agreed the film was a "mind-boggling technical achievement" but did not think it was that spectacular overall, as Mendes's style with its impression of a continuous take "can be as distracting as it is immersive". [82] It received three nominations at the 77th Golden Globe Awards and won two awards: for Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director. [83] It also received eight nominations at the 25th Critics' Choice Awards, winning three awards, including Best Director, [84] and nine nominations at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards, winning the most awards — seven, including Best Film, Best Director and Outstanding British film. [85] [86] It was chosen by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute as one of the top ten films of the year. [87] [88] Historical accuracy [ edit] British soldiers following up the Germans near Brie, March 1917 The film was inspired by Operation Alberich, a German withdrawal to new positions on the shorter and more easily defended Hindenburg Line that took place between 9 February and 20 March 1917. [89] However, the main and supporting characters all appear to be fictional. [90] Writing in the New York Times, Cathy Tempelsman argues that the storyline offers a "dangerously misleading" picture of the War, suggesting "a concern for the sanctity of human life from the top down", whereas the reality was "an appalling indifference as the British high command sent hundreds of thousands of their young men to die". She adds that the "false heroics and filmmaking feats of wonder" serve to provide an "escape from the true carnage of the 'Great War'", and that in reality the scale of the casualties was such that the potential loss of 1, 600 men would not have excited the response portrayed in the film. [91] According to military historian Jeremy Banning, "It made no sense, as the film depicts, to have some battalions nine miles beyond the former German line and others seemingly unaware of whether this line was manned.... As for the assault by the Devons, no unit would attack without adequate artillery support". [92] The number of black soldiers serving in the British Army (rather than colonial regiments) during the World War I is unknown but is likely to have been negligible. The Devonshire Regiment was never brigaded with any West Indian or African units (it spent the war in 8th Division). Over 15, 000 men from the Caribbean enlisted, including black Caribbeans living in Britain, and by 1915 it was decided to group them together into a single regiment, named the British West Indies Regiment. [93] [94] [95] Indian Sikhs would have served in their own regiments as part of the British Indian Army, not as individuals in the ranks of British regiments and Corps. By 1917 the Indian infantry had been withdrawn from the Western Front and sent to the Middle East; the Indian cavalry remained. Is this running simulator. What bothered me was when they got the German pilot out and u can clearly see his knife yet they didn't throw it away first thing. It’s a typical World War I battle scene, but flipped 90 degrees. Photo: Universal Pictures When it comes to 20th-century military conflicts, there’s no question which one Hollywood prefers. Cinematically, World War II has everything: dramatic battles, dastardly villains, a pivotal role played by the United States, and ultimately, a resounding victory for the good guys. Its predecessor has proven a tougher subject for movies to crack, especially American ones. (For the British, it occupies a more prominent place in the collective historical memory. ) We remember World War I as a military stalemate that exemplified the utter meaninglessness of war, and while the day-to-day drudgery and existential despair of life in the trenches inspired plenty of lasting poetry and literature, it doesn’t necessarily lend itself to blockbusters. What grabs modern audiences about the conflict is either the gross stuff — Dan Carlin’s Hardcore Histories podcast dives deep into the disgusting sights, smells, and sensations of the Western Front — or the sense of grand tragedy. When they do show up onscreen, World War I battles traditionally share a similar pattern: Our heroes climb out a trench, run a pitifully short distance, then get machine-gunned to death. Think of the famous ending of the BBC’s Blackadder Goes Forth, in which Rowan Atkinson and company go over the top, their grim fates elided with a dissolve to a field of poppies: Or the heartbreaking conclusion to Peter Weir’s Gallipoli, which follows Australian troops in the war’s Middle Eastern theater: More recently, Steven Spielberg’s War Horse gave us both a doomed cavalry charge and a doomed infantry charge. Even Wonder Woman barely makes it five feet before being struck by a German bullet that would have been fatal for a non-superhero: In other words, if you’re making a World War I movie that doesn’t end with your heroes dead or grievously wounded, you’d better have a good explanation. These depressing depictions are in keeping with what became the dominant historical narrative of the First World War in Britain and the U. S., which painted the troops on the ground as victims of their own generals, idiots who senselessly sent their men into a meat grinder. However, this view has come in for reappraisal as military historians like Brian Bond argue that, contrary to popular belief, the war as a whole was “necessary and successful ” (though that wider lens in turn has been critiqued for erasing the experience of those who actually served). With the Great War recently celebrating its centenary, projects like Peter Jackson’s They Shall Not Grow Old have attempted to sidestep these historical debates by concentrating solely on the day-to-day experiences of the men in the trenches, avoiding making any wider claims about what, if anything, the war itself meant. Into this fraught landscape steps Sam Mendes’s 1917, which is trying to accomplish that rarest of feats: telling a feel-good World War I story. The director based his film on the memories of his grandfather, who served as a messenger on the Western Front, and that family connection seems to have left him determined to present a version of the war where an individual soldier could still act heroically, rather than simply be a lamb for the slaughter. “Other people have made that movie, the blood and guts, ” the movie’s Oscar-nominated production designer Dennis Gassner told me earlier this month. “This wasn’t that. This is a story about integrity, the willingness to do anything even in the harshest conditions. ” Mendes has spoken of the film as a tribute to those who made it back home, which requires him to pull off the tonal balancing act of reclaiming the war as an arena for nobility and sacrifice, while not glorifying the conflict itself. Never is that tension more clear than in the film’s conclusive action setpiece, which is tasked with giving viewers a happy ending in a conflict that offered few uncomplicated victories. 1917 follows two British soldiers, Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman) and Schofield ( George MacKay), who are handed the perilous task of traversing no-man’s-land to deliver a message to another regiment calling off their attack. (Though the plot is fiction, the German withdrawal that acts as the inciting incident actually happened. ) The film’s first act supplies many of the genre tropes we’ve come to associate with the First World War. Blake is a cheerful naif who still hopes to be “home by Christmas, ” while Schofield has the thousand-yard stare of a shell-shocked Somme veteran. They navigate trench networks that have evolved into a microcosm of society, and the dialogue covers familiar territory: unclear orders, no supplies, thousands of men dying to gain a single inch. An officer on the front line (played by Fleabag ’s Andrew Scott, in the film’s best performance) has been so numbed by constant fire that he no longer knows what day it is. Once Blake and Schofield go over the top, the no-man’s-land sequence is a horror show, as the men must trace a path past a dead horse, plentiful corpses, and massive craters that scar the landscape. In 1917 ’s purest gross-out moment, Schofield accidentally plunges his bloody hand into the open stomach of a dead soldier. After they cross through the German trenches — a sequence that starts with the men staring at bags of shit and only gets more harrowing from there — Blake and Schofield arrive in the open countryside. It’s a view not often seen in World War I movies, which rarely venture beyond the trenches, and it provides an opportunity for the film to slow down and relax. The soldiers get into a debate about whether there’s any meaning to be found in the war. Blake, who, true to his name, is the romantic of the pair, has learned that Schofield traded his Somme medal for a bottle of wine, and berates him. “You should have taken it home, ” Blake says. “You should have given it to your family. Men have died for that. If I’d got a medal I’d take it back home. Why didn’t you take it home? ” Schofield disagrees, with the bitterness of a war poet: “Look, it’s just a bit of bloody tin. It doesn’t make you special. It doesn’t make any difference to anyone. ” Subsequent events seem to prove Schofield correct: Blake is stabbed by a German pilot whose life he’d just saved, and his prolonged, pitiful death carries no meaning and no glory. But as Schofield continues on alone, the sheer difficulty of the obstacles he faces spurs him to carry on. He’s shot by an enemy sniper, and only narrowly survives. He stumbles upon a German sentry, and kills the lad in close combat. Like Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant, he evades his pursuers by jumping into a river, at which point he goes over a waterfall and nearly drowns. Mendes gives Schofield plentiful opportunities to give up — including one slightly eye-rolling sequence with a young woman and a baby — but he never does. It’s an abstract, existential view of the Great War: The struggle itself is what gives the experience meaning. Then, in the film’s closing sequence, Mendes takes the tropes of trench warfare and twists them 90 degrees. Schofield has finally made it to the regiment he needs to find, only to discover that their attack has already begun. He tries to push his way through a crowded trench — while Dunkirk was a movie about standing in line, 1917 is a movie about cutting in line — but it’s no use. He won’t be able to deliver the message, and hundreds of men will die as a result. Unless … he takes a shortcut. As the music swells, Schofield decides to go over the top a second time, a sequence that encapsulates both Mendes’s creative revisionism, as well as the sheer scale of his technical undertaking. ( The scene features 50 stuntmen and 450 extras. ) Unlike most onscreen World War I battles, Schofield is not charging out toward the German lines; he’s sprinting across, parallel to the trench. Thematically, too, the final run flips what we’re used to seeing. Our hero is not heading toward the enemy and certain death; he’s going back to his own men, to redemption. In a sequence that has traditionally been cinematic shorthand for futility, Mendes goes for hope. But the film is also careful not to turn this individual triumph into a wider victory. Having defied death by going over the top, Schofield gains his reward: an audience with the officer in charge of the advance (Benedict Cumberbatch). We’ve been set up to see this character as a villain, but the movie gives us something more complicated. This one is just as worn down as his men; the folly of his attack was born out of the hope that this time, things would be different. (With one notable exception, the much-maligned officer class gets a sympathetic treatment in 1917. ) Zoom out, and the movie’s happy ending is not very happy at all. Yes, a massacre has been averted, but the bloody stasis endures. Viewers know the war will continue for another year and a half. 1917 begins with Schofield dozing under a tree, before he’s awoken by Blake, and the two men go to meet the general who gives them their mission. The film’s conclusion offers a mirror of this structure — possibly one reason the film scored that surprise Screenplay nod. Next, Schofield’s arc with Blake comes full circle, as well. Having completed his perilous journey, Schofield searches the casualty tent for Blake’s older brother. After informing the brother of Blake’s death, Schofield hands over his effects to be returned to his family. These mementos are not meaningless, after all. The magnitude of his efforts has brought Schofield around to Blake’s way of thinking. (The bookend effect of these closing scenes is also enhanced by the film’s casting. The two commanders are played by Cumberbatch and Colin Firth, British heartthrobs of two different generations; Blake’s brother is played by Richard Madden, who acted with Dean-Charles Chapman on Game of Thrones. ) Finally, the film ends just as it began, with Schofield enjoying a moment of rest under a tree. This time, he’s alone, but not really: He pulls out a photograph, revealing for the first time that he’s been carrying around a memento of the wife and children waiting at home. There’s an inscription on the back: “Come back to us. ” Finally, the sun rises, and the film fades to black with a dedication to Mendes’s grandfather, “who told us the stories. ” This closing moment of catharsis encapsulates all that’s proven divisive about 1917. While the film has received generally positive reviews, it’s also received a few high-profile dissents from the likes of Richard Brody, Manohla Dargis, and our own Alison Willmore, all of whom have taken issue with the film turning the industrial bloodbath of the Western Front into a celebration of individual perseverance. Of course, sending viewers out on such an emotional high note is also what’s made 1917 our presumptive Oscars front-runner, as the film been hitting voters’ hearts in a way that its predecessors haven’t. And if the film takes home Best Picture over Parasite in two weeks’ time, you can bet that this debate will only intensify. After all, there’s no such thing as an uncomplicated victory. Let’s Talk About the Ending of 1917.

Mendes’s first world war drama, filmed to appear as one continuous take, plunges the viewer into the trenches alongside two young British soldiers to breathless effect 4 / 5 stars 4 out of 5 stars. ‘Endlessly watchable’: George MacKay, centre, as Lt Corp Schofield in Sam Mendes’s epic 1917. Photograph: François Duhamel/AP F or the opening of his 2015 Bond movie Spectre, director Sam Mendes (who won an Oscar for his first feature, American Beauty) mounted a memorable sequence set amid Mexico City’s day of the dead festival. In what appears to be a single continuous shot, the camera tracks a masked figure through crowded streets, into a hotel lobby, up an elevator, out of a window, and over the rooftops to a deadly assignation. It’s an audacious, attention-grabbing curtain-raiser widely hailed as the film’s strongest asset. For his latest movie – an awards-garlanded first world war drama that has already won best picture honours at the Golden Globes – Mendes has returned to the lure of the “one-shot” format, this time stretching it out to feature length. Like Hitchcock’s Rope or Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, 1917 uses several takes and set-ups, seamlessly conjoined to give the appearance of a continuous cinematic POV, albeit with periodic ellipses. The result is a populist, immersive drama that leads the viewer through the trenches and battlefields of northern France, as two young British soldiers attempt to make their way through enemy lines on 6 April 1917. George MacKay and Dean-Charles Chapman are perfectly cast as Schofield and Blake, the lance corporals enlisted to venture into enemy territory with a message for fellow troops poised to launch a potentially catastrophic assault. The Germans have made a “strategic withdrawal”, suggesting that they are on the run. In fact they’re lying in wait, armed and ready to repel the planned British push. Together, these young soldiers must reach their comrades and halt the attack – a race against time and insurmountable odds. With meticulous attention to detail (plaudits to production designer Dennis Gassner) and astonishingly fluid cinematography by Roger Deakins that shifts from ground level to God’s-eye view, Mendes puts his audience right there in the middle of the unfolding chaos. There’s a real sense of epic scale as the action moves breathlessly from one hellish environment to the next, effectively capturing our reluctant heroes’ sense of anxiety and discovery as they stumble into each new unchartered terrain. This is nail-biting stuff, interspersed with genuine shocks and surprises. Whether it’s a tripwire moment that provokes an audible gasp, a distant dogfight segueing into up-close-and-personal horror, or a single gunshot that made me jump out of my seat during an otherwise near-silent sequence, there’s no doubting the film’s theatrical impact. Watch a trailer for 1917 Yet for all the steel-trap visceral efficiency, it’s the more low-key moments that really pack a punch – those moments when we’re confronted with the simple human cost of war. As with Peter Jackson’s monumentally moving documentary They Shall Not Grow Old, 1917 works best when showing us the boyish face of this conflict; the pitiable plight of a young generation, old or lost before their time. It’s a quality perfectly captured by MacKay’s endlessly watchable eyes, which manage simultaneously to project ravaged innocence and world-weary exhaustion – fatalism and hope. “Hope is a dangerous thing, ” says Benedict Cumberbatch’s Colonel MacKenzie, just one of a number of small roles filled by high-profile actors happy to play second fiddle. It’s a line that mirrors the central refrain from The Shawshank Redemption, another humanist movie tinged with horror that seems to haunt Mendes and Krysty Wilson-Cairns’ script. There are evocations, too, of Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, not only in the unflinching depiction of battlefield violence, but also in a plot device that sets soldiers searching for a brother in a desperate quest for redemption. In one of its more surreal (or perhaps transcendent) sequences, wherein a purgatorial night-time underworld is illuminated in a yellow phosphorescent haze, I was unexpectedly reminded of a dream scene from Waltz With Bashir, in which young men rise from the water, like ghosts walking among the living. Throughout this Homeric odyssey, Thomas Newman’s pulsing score ratchets up the tension, travelling “up the down trench”, through the body-strewn carnage of no man’s land (a forest of wood and wire, bone and blood) and into the eerie environs of deserted farmhouses and bombed-out churches. Occasionally, we hear echoes of the rising crescendo of Hans Zimmer’s Dunkirk score; elsewhere, Newman’s cues are full of piercing melancholia mingled with distant threat. In a film in which music plays such a crucial role, it’s significant that perhaps the most powerful scene is an interlude of song. Emerging from a river after a baptismal episode of death and rebirth, we find ourselves in a wood where a young man sings The Wayfaring Stranger. It’s an interlude that brings the characters and audiences together in silence, communally experiencing that still-small voice of calm that lies at the heart of so many great war movies.

(Gasps)Ooh.

After receiving secret messages from Jim in postcards, Ray went to the Seycheles Islands and found Jim was living a new life - Jim even went to India and became a monk for a few years- meditated and was re-vitalized- he even managed to control his alcohol- amazing work of literature- absolutely riveting. highly reccommended. The Doors In retrospect: Jim Morrison A great front man nobody has that voice or unpredictability. As far as Drummers in the 1960's and 1970's WTF! John Densmore is freaking God. He is not just a drummer but a phenomenal percussionist. Ray Manzarek play the bass chords on that little piano bass and keep time with Densmore and then run away with those organ rifts he is not talented man he is a freaking genius! Robby Kreiger so underrated as a guitarist he is a monster of energy.

I think that about sums it up - What is this movie? What is it trying to be? And when, oh when, will it end?
It's a bit too violent and has too many pointless, non-story progressing scenes to be a kids' movie but it is definitely not for adults. All the good bits are in the 30-second advert that convinced us to go and see it.
We saw a morning session at the cinema. At 10.57am I checked my watch, at 11.01am I checked my watch and was stunned to find time had completely slowed.
Although Chloe Coleman is an excellent actress and very watchable, every other character was unbelievable, unappealing and terribly written. What a waste of clever people like Kristen Schaal (or as I call her, Mel from Flight of the Conchords.
My older son thought it was okay but when pressed, couldn't name a favourite scene. The younger one gave up and ended up playing a game on my phone about an hour in.

She's Missing Free streaming sur internet. Hi y'all, I'm back and finally able to say how I feel about this movie. I finished this movie over an hour ago, it was. is) one of the best movies I've ever seen. Some parts in it needed something more. For me, whether Jane forgives me or not, wants to be rescued or not, I would save her, any way I can. To make sure that "family" doesnt go after or bother Jane ever again, I would finish them off in a mixed styles of the endings from apocalypse now and taxi driver. But still, it was a great movie. I give it 8/10.
The ending of the movie, I'm only slightly conflicted when Jane and Heidi are reunited.
I do not care what anyone else says, but I mostly and truly believe w/ all my heart & soul that Jane realizes what she did was wrong and is slowly recovering from it. One step at a time. Later, Jane finds Heidi in the new hotel, to be reunited/together again and beg for forgiveness. then face their problems, their dreams again and their futures, head on together.
as for eiza gonzalez, it was one of the greatest performances she ever did (so far. SHE DESERVES AN OSCAR. For her performance as Jane and another statue for her performance in another movie she did. "Paradise hills" she played as amarna.
even though she did small roles recently, I love all her characters and all the hard work she put into them. But she's not being fully recognized enough for her talents/gifts. And she should be. Because what I've seen in her t.v. show (from dusk till dawn: the series) and in both paradise hills and she's missing, she deserves an Emmy and couple of oscars. Because she deserves them 1,000. br> I give the movie 8/10, but I give eiza Gonzalez 1000/1000.

Comment Reviews Reviewer: MaxVonMayerling - favorite favorite favorite favorite favorite - October 24, 2016 Subject: Racist slur... It's hard to hear the n-word in 2016 and not be shocked, because it's been so firmly identified as a racist slur. But in 1931 --- and even many years after -- the "Eenie-meanie" rhyme WAS "catch an n-word by the toe. " "Tiger" was a polite substitution to make the rhyme more civilized. Into the '60s, you could walk up to a candy counter in Pennsylvania -- hardly an Old South state -- and order little licorice candies shaped like infants -- "Nigger Babies. " Don't know what they call 'em these days. Kmight4444, when you get all apoplectic about a stupid racial reference and dismiss the whole rest of the movie because of it, you're not only denying yourself the enjoyment of a good movie, you're also missing a new perspective on an old problem -- racism. knight4444 favorite - November 30, 2014 love Bette Davis, scrap this move WOW, five minutes after poor jimmy's mother get ran over as road kill, jimmy's off to the city saying, eeny meeny miny moe, catch a NIGGER by the toe, that made me turn that crap off! Now of course our more hateful, ignorant crowd, and you know what crowd I'm referring to, will sugar coat little jimmy's racist slur and immediately call me or ANYONE who objects to racist slurs, as being racist themselves!! what a country!! MrFrank favorite favorite favorite - October 5, 2013 Who knew that doing the right thing could be sad. Purity and tragedy within the first few minutes of the film, as well as an ongoing theme throughout. Many films of this era, bring us back to honest values, reminding us what's really important. appledecca August 21, 2010 Hells house.. Bette Davies knew a good story.. Oh, moment at start... ( I guess filmaker did'nt show what it was like for the Black kids because well, I guess that really would've been like hell! nigeldavahah August 17, 2010 A Must Watch GOOD ilovereallyoldmovies August 16, 2010 great movie The older the movie, the better they seem, and this one didn't disappoint me. I could also relate to it, since I was sent to the State Industrial School for Girls when I was the same age as Jimmy. Only I didn't get out for fifteen months! Thank goodness those reforms of the reform schools had already taken place by the time I was fourteen. I will always love these old movies, and seeing the stars in their earlier roles. Retrokevin1 favorite favorite - August 2, 2010 eamy-meany-miney-moe Very enjoyable movie. But the "nigger" reference from the young man in the beginning was like someone taking a pee in my coffee. I knew that racism existed back then, I'm just surprised that it would be displayed in such a blatant way. Now I understand why this is one film from Miss Davis that was not preserved. bestpbx January 7, 2010 It's okay, bug guy! This is a good little film. It goes over the top sometimes, but when you have Bette Davis, Pat O'Brien, and Charlie Grapewin in a movie from the1930's you are going to get something worth watching. BABatson favorite favorite favorite favorite - January 6, 2010 As Good as They Come 'Hell's House' is full of flaws, but redeeming acting, a glimpse of civilisation as it was and could have been still but better today, but was spoiled by Green and Marxist disease (I mean here, the suicidal rebellion which stems from the Devil and leads to self-annihilation because -- dare I say it? -- The Bible really is True and them who have been rejecting it for these 2000 years have largely shaped the fall of Western Civilisation which they have largely brought about through background control of the media of information and education, its psychology, with a determination which can only be described as obsessive. The redemption of 'Hell's House' is the several long & short moments of superb, heart in hand, acting which lifts an otherwise 'B' Movie out into the First Class territory. Although no where near what it might have been were more confidence, more finance, and more scripting might have made it, the film is touching by the innocence of those who act in the several stellar moments of pathos, scattered throughout the movie. What Bette Davis might have developed into says less about her and more about what commercial cinematography wanted -- and got. The cinematographic photography is adequate, but no more -- it illuminates, but it does not contribute anything in itself, as if filmed by news reel cameramen, and they without imagination nor imaginative technique. What Society America might have developed in contribution to Western, and World, Civilisation we might never know this side of Eternity; the Second World War and subsequent 'economic well-being by unlimited growth' economics designed in hell, these have seen to that. So, taking what has been given us, as paltry fare as it may be, this 'Hell's House' is as good as they come. revdaddy September 6, 2009 priceless This film is priceless! It has everything. The writing is better than expected. The acting, with folks like Bette Davis (so young and she knew how to use those eyes) and Pat O'Brien (thin and handsome) you just can't have a bad movie. I give it five stars and I am sure I will watch it many times over the years. I found it amusing when reading the opening credits that two of the actors were named "Junior". jimelena November 8, 2006 How is it now Shorty? Bette Davis, Pat O'Brian, what's not to like?

Meanwhile, Tigres and rival Monterrey also played out a 1-1 draw after two legs. Tigres advanced to the final after having finished in second, one spot ahead of Monterrey in the table. At the beginning of every month, subscription streaming services add a new batch of movies and TV shows to their libraries. Here are the titles we think are most interesting, broken down by service. Everything mentioned was available to stream starting Jan. 1, unless otherwise indicated. Mark Wahlberg in “Boogie Nights. ” New Line Cinema Movies New to Netflix ‘ Boogie Nights ’ If you had a bad New Year’s Eve, watch this movie — which depicts an almost certainly worse New Year’s Eve (poor Little Bill) — and feel slightly better. ‘Miss Sharon Jones! ’ (Jan. 7) Director Barbara Kopple (“Harlan County, U. S. A. ”) captures the unstoppable energy of Sharon Jones, the frontwoman for the funk and soul band the Dap-Kings, who died in November at age 60. This documentary chronicles Jones’s battle with pancreatic cancer and her subsequent return to the stage. ‘Under the Shadow’ (Jan. 7) Left alone in Tehran after her husband is drafted into the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s, Shideh (Narges Rashidi) begins to see and hear a mysterious apparition in the apartment she shares with their young daughter, Dorsa (Avin Manshadi). Are the sightings real or just stress-induced fantasies? Also of Interest “Caddyshack, ” “ E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial, ” “ Hugo, ” “Superman: The Movie, ” “The Parent Trap” (1961), “ The Shining, ” “V for Vendetta, ” “ It Follows ” (Jan. 13). [ Sign up for the Watching newsletter to get recommendations straight to your inbox. ] New Netflix Original TV Series ‘One Day at a Time’ (Jan. 6) This modern version of the Norman Lear sitcom, which ran from 1975 to 1984, is set among a Cuban-American family living in Los Angeles. A military veteran-single mother (Justina Machado) tries to raise her two kids with the help of her mother, played by Rita Moreno. Apparently, new shows with laugh tracks can still be pretty good. ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ (Jan. 13) Three newly orphaned children are forced to live with their dastardly relative in this adaptation of the beloved children’s novels by Lemony Snicket. A big-screen version of the story was released in 2004, starring Jim Carrey as the evil Count Olaf. This time around, Neil Patrick Harris tackles the role. From left, Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin in “The Piano. ” Miramax Films New on Amazon Prime and Hulu ‘Happy Feet’ (Amazon Prime) Director George Miller takes a departure from his water-starved “Mad Max” series in this animated film, which imagines an Antarctic colony of tap-dancing penguins. The voice cast includes Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. ‘ Amélie ’ (Hulu) Full of whimsy and good feelings, this French romantic comedy is a fitting cure for a dreary day. Putting her own feelings of loneliness aside, a do-gooder waitress named Amélie (Audrey Tautou), decides to improve the lives of those around her. Those allergic to all things twee may not enjoy this sugar-sweet Parisian fantasy. ‘Cruel Intentions’ (Hulu) A meanspirited game among rich New York City teens makes for a steamy time in this modern version of “Les Liaisons Dangereuses. ” The film stars three young and beautiful stars — Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe. ‘ The Piano’ (Hulu) Jane Campion’s moving period drama features a mute pianist (Holly Hunter) who, along with her feisty child (Anna Paquin), is stuck in a stifling New Zealand home with her cold new husband (Sam Neill). But one of his workers (Harvey Keitel) may offer the escape she needs. Harrison Ford in “Raiders of the Lost Ark. ” LucasFilms Also of Interest on Amazon Prime All four “ Indiana Jones ” movies, “American History X, ” “Hellboy, ” “Swiss Army Man” (Jan. 30) Also of Interest on Hulu All four “ Indiana Jones ” movies, “ Annie Hall, ” “The ‘Burbs, ” “Footloose, ” “Lethal Weapon” (Parts 1 to 4), “Mission: Impossible, ” “The Powerpuff Girls” Seasons 1 to 6, “Sleepy Hollow, ” “South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, ” “Trading Places, ” “The Untouchables, ” “War Games, ” “Witness. ” Olivia DeJonge, foreground, and Deanna Dunagan in “The Visit. ” Universal Pictures Movies New to HBO ‘ Mad Max: Fury Road ’ In this latest chapter in George Miller’s “Mad Max” series, Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) joins forces with Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) to liberate a group of women held hostage by their ruthless ruler, Immortan Joe. (The character names are amazing. ) This movie will feed your need for death-defying fight scenes, cars barreling through the desert and explosions. ‘The Visit’ (Jan. 13) Every child knows that old people are kind of scary. And in M. Night Shyamalan’s latest, a visit to grandma’s house gets the horror movie treatment. Two kids travel deep into the woods to visit the grandparents they haven’t seen in years. But there’s something strange about their behavior. Like, very strange. It’s Shyamalan’s strongest film in years. Also of Interest “The Big Lebowski, ” “The Blues Brothers, ” “The Road Warrior, ” “Evil Dead 2, ” “The Sixth Sense. ” New HBO Originals ‘The Young Pope’ (Jan. 15) Jude Law plays Pius XIII, the first American pope, in this ten-episode series. He is young. You get it. ‘Beware the Slenderman’ (Jan. 23) This documentary explores the case of two Wisconsin girls, who in 2014, at age 12, took their friend into the woods and stabbed her 19 times, almost to death. The reason? They were told to kill, they said, by a tall and faceless being named Slenderman, an internet meme. ‘Becoming Warren Buffett’ (Jan. 30) One of the richest men in the world gets the full documentary treatment. New on Showtime ‘Coffee and Cigarettes’ Director Jim Jarmusch’s chill compilation of black-and-white shorts meanders through various conversations without forsaking its titular substances as both conversation aids and topics. And with cast members as varied as Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, RZA, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Steve Coogan and Alfred Molina, you’re bound to find at least one pairing that captures your attention. ‘ Bridge of Spies ’ (Jan. 14) Steven Spielberg’s not done with period movies yet. This Cold War drama tells the story of a determined lawyer (Tom Hanks) and the spy exchange he shepherds along, trading a Russian for an American pilot. Mark Rylance, who portrays the slippery Russian spy, won an Oscar for his performance. Movies Also of Interest “ Up in the Air, ” “ The Hurt Locker. ” From left, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones in “Ghostbusters. ” Sony Pictures Entertainment New on Starz Sergio Leone’s ‘Dollars’ Trilogy If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to catch up on more classic movies, this is now an easy batch to cross off your list. Sergio Leone’s “Dollars” trilogy follows the violent saga of the Man with no Name (Clint Eastwood). These three films — “A Fistful of Dollars, ” “For a Few Dollars More” and “ The Good, the Bad and the Ugly ” — are among the most praised Westerns in cinema history. ‘ Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb ’ (Jan. 6) Funny how this political satire from director Stanley Kubrick never grows old. At the height of the Cold War, a high-ranking general snaps and sends a warhead to Russia, inciting chaos among American and Russian leaders. Peter Sellers plays three roles in the movie, but none as memorable as his recovering Nazi, Dr. Strangelove. ‘Ghostbusters’ (Jan. 28) As a nostalgic tribute to the original film with its own quirky underdog story, 2016’s “Ghostbusters” had a lot of expectations to live up to. Good thing it had the talented comedians Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon to help it along. Also of Interest “Chinatown, ” “Galaxy Quest, ” “Grindhouse, ” “How to Steal a Million, ” “Kill Bill” Vols. 1 and 2, “ Jerry Maguire, ” “ Lawrence of Arabia, ” “Spaceballs, ” “Starship Troopers, ” “Bad Lieutenant” (Jan. 6), “Barton Fink” (Jan. 6) “ Three Days of the Condor ” (Jan. 6), “Existenz” (Jan. 20), “Pineapple Express” (Jan. 21). From left, Owen Wilson, Robert Musgrave and Luke Wilson in “Bottle Rocket. ” Columbia Pictures New on Sundance Now ‘Bottle Rocket’ (Jan. 16) Wes Anderson’s impressive first feature helped the director establish his signature style. In it, three misfit friends (Luke and Owen Wilson, Robert Musgrave) embark on a crime spree without knowing much about robbery. Like many of Anderson’s subsequent films, this one is bittersweet and oddly sentimental. ‘Los Angeles Plays Itself’ (Jan. 16) Thom Andersen’s sprawling found-footage documentary about the City of Angels feels almost as big as Los Angeles itself. Using footage from dozens and dozens of Hollywood movies, he painstakingly reconstructs the city’s fractured onscreen legacy. Also of Interest “The Professional” (Jan. 3), “El Mariachi” (Jan. 9), “Persepolis” (Jan. 16), “Putney Swope” (Jan. 16), “The Triplets of Belleville” (Jan. 16), “Safe” (Jan. 23), “Talk to Her” (Jan. 23), “City of Lost Children” (Jan. 30), “Synecdoche, New York” (Jan. 30). Robin Williams in “The Fisher King. ” Tri-Star Pictures New on FilmStruck ‘Safe’ (Jan. 4) This 1995 Todd Haynes drama about a besieged housewife is coming to FilmStruck’s Criterion Channel. Carol (Julianne Moore) should feel right at home with her posh life but is forced to retreat when severe allergies force her to withdraw from everyone around her. Terry Gilliam Collection (Jan. 6) Sample a bit of the imaginative worlds of the animator, director and Monty Python member Terry Gilliam. You can try the heartbreaking drama of “The Fisher King, ” starring Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges, or embark on a fantastical voyage with “Time Bandits” or “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. ” Also of Interest “2 Days in Paris” (Jan. 6), “ Amélie ” (Jan. 6), “The Kid with a Bike” (Jan. 6 on the Criterion Channel), “Certified Copy” (Jan. 11 on the Criterion Channel), “Persepolis” (Jan. 20), “Wendy and Lucy” (Jan. 20).
