This song meke me cry every time I hear it. A part of me wants to watch this movie again. And the other part wants to sleep at night. Worthy is the Lamp seated on the you for the cross Lord. this song is the best song ever. I wasn't sure how well I would enjoy this film, but I absolutely loved it! I especially loved Gina Rodrigues' portrayal of Mary as an intelligent, kind and thoughtful young woman with a sense of humor and love for animals. As a Christian, I found this retelling of the birth of Jesus very meaningful. Of course all of the animal antics were created for comedic and entertainment effect, but the essential details were correct, from the appearance of the angel Gabriel to Mary, to Mary's cousin Elizabeth and Zechariah, her priestly husband who was strung dumb for his lack of faith, to King Herod's murderous obsession for the destruction of the Christ child. Like I said, I loved this film and believe most others will, too.

'The Star' is a delightful animated adaptation of the story of the Nativity of Jesus, aimed for younger children. It includes a lot of entertaining animal characters (some of which accompanied Jesus in the manger when he was born) and some songs to make it appealing to young and old alike. While not exactly Disney-standard, there a lot of redeeming qualities that differentiate 'The Star' from other uninspired adaptations.
This film follows the story of Bo, the ambitious donkey working for the town's miller who wants to be part of the Royal Caravan one day. One day he manages to escape with the help of his old friends, who at last recognizes the beauty of Bo's dreams. By focusing on Bo instead of Christ or the story as it is written in the Bible, I was initially afraid that this film was going to be out of focus. You might argue that it still is so it can amuse its very young target audience. But I believe that at in its heart this film is still about Christ, the film just uses Bo's story to give a fresh perspective on the narrative of the Nativity we all know so well.
This point is worth some emphasis. 'The Star' focuses more on Bo than on Christ, more on Herod's buff soldier who tries to hunt down Joseph and the pregnant Mary than Herod himself, more on the camels carrying The Three Wise Men on their journey following the Star to the place where the Messiah is born in Bethlehem than on the Three Wise Men themselves and so on. Yet, when taking into consideration its target audience of young children, most of them not older than 7 or 8 years, it wouldn't have made a lot of sense to portray the story of the Nativity as it truly was, with all of the persecution (of Christ by Herod) and bloodshed ( the massacre of the innocents" the real story has. If you want a loyal adaptation of the story of the Nativity for your children, unfortunately you have to look elsewhere, but if you want a lighthearted, fresh and new perspective this is as good as it gets.
A lot of comic relief is supplied by Bo's amusing and loyal friend, the pigeon Dave. The villain, as those familiar with the Bible should know, is Herod, voiced by Christopher Plummer. The voice acting, it must be said, is not outstanding, in the sense that none of them really stand out, not even Mariah Carey as the horse, Rebecca, or Oprah Winfrey as one of the Three Wise Men's camels, Deborah. Nevertheless, all of the voice actors manage to get the job done satisfactorily.
To conclude, I would like to add something about the film's religious theme and inspiration. Even if you're not a particularly religious person, you cannot fail to appreciate the epic grandeur and poetic beauty of the biblical account of the Nativity, such as the metaphoric and symbolic nature of the Star and the ironic facts that Jesus, the son of God, was born in a manger of all places and that Bo does end up working in a royal caravan by accompanying Joseph and Mary. The point the film wants to emphasize is that we are all following our own unique star, like Bo and Joseph and Mary, even if some of us don't know where it is leading us or going to lead us yet.
I would recommend 'The Star' which offers a fresh new perspective to the story we all know so well, obviously keeping in mind all of the liberties in takes. To their credit, the producers do try to preserve all of the Christian values and significance that are to be found in the biblical account of the Nativity (if not the Bible itself. And that's arguably the most important thing in an adaptation like this film.

Confieso que no sé cómo llamar a los estados democráticos en los que la seguridad de las personas depende del dinero que los ciudadanos puedan dedicar a comprar automóviles blindados, guardaespaldas y complejos sistemas de seguridad para sus viviendas, en los que las abismales diferencias sociales determinan que la gran mayoría de la población esté expuesta al capricho de la violencia y el crimen, sin que a los gobernantes se les caiga la cara de vergüenza.

Sea el tipo de gobierno que sea, la primera responsabilidad de los gobernantes es proteger la vida y los bienes de los ciudadanos. Cuando las desigualdades llegan de ese modo a establecer diferencias entre la vida y la muerte, es porque el sistema en su conjunto ha dejado de ser noble y decente.

Hoy se debate en numerosos países el endurecimiento de las penas para los delitos violentos y la instauración de la pena de muerte. Pero en este debate se suele olvidar el significado de la prevención, el papel de la educación, la reflexión sobre los contenidos de los medios de comunicación, las canciones con letras que hacen apología de la violencia y el racismo, los contenidos violentos de las películas, incluyendo las de temática sexual degradante, y el papel de los videojuegos violentos. Las películas y los videojuegos violentos forman parte de una industria que mueve incalculables millones de dólares en todo el mundo; ¿quién les pone freno?

La alarma que causan los delitos violentos, que suscita el debate sobre el endurecimiento de las penas y la implantación de la pena de muerte, lamentablemente no está acompañada de estudios fiables sobre las características de la criminalidad; los gobiernos nacionales y locales ocultan los datos, como si eso contribuyera a evidenciar su buena gestión, duplicando la zona oscura del delito, pues a los hechos no denunciados hay que sumar los que simplemente se omiten en las estadísticas.

La criminología, la sociología y las ciencias sociales han pasado a planos inferiores, incluso como disciplinas de conocimiento, pese a que son irrefutables sus importantes contribuciones a la comprensión del fenómeno delictivo y a la humanización de los delitos y las penas.

Es preciso conocer si los recursos empeñados en la lucha contra el crimen son coherentes con el aumento de las poblaciones, el fenómeno de las migraciones, la internacionalización del delito, el incremento de los conocimientos y los medios tecnológicos. Sólo a la luz de este examen podemos establecer una respuesta de calidad y cantidad. Los salarios de los servidores públicos encargados de la lucha contra el crimen deben ser motivadores y satisfactorios, para exigirles probidad y para compensarlos por exponer sus vidas en aras de la seguridad colectiva.

La falta de recursos con los que trabajan los jueces y fiscales, las carencias de la policía y de las cárceles evidencian que el sistema de prevención y sanción de la criminalidad es la eterna cenicienta de la democracia, probablemente para no recordar tiempos de tiranías y autoritarismos, en los que el orden público era lo prioritario. Con todos sus enormes defectos, es una bendición que la democracia trajera la libertad. Pero ahora es preciso recordar que la vida y la seguridad de los ciudadanos es la primera responsabilidad de los gobiernos, desde el alba de la humanidad.

Hay quienes atribuyen a los derechos de defensa y de presunción de inocencia el aumento de la criminalidad y hasta el cinismo de quienes saben de antemano que sus acciones criminales van a quedar impunes. Sin embargo, todo elogio es insuficiente para destacar los méritos de la generación de políticos y juristas a los que les correspondió consagrar en las constituciones y en las leyes esos derechos fundamentales que son el mayor freno del autoritarismo. Y qué tristes son las bandadas de cuervos que en los últimos años han graznado para recortarlos. Pero sí es cierto que es preciso elaborar protocolos adecuados para la actuación de la policía. La independencia del poder judicial no debe amparar la corrupción. La autonomía del juez no autoriza el capricho. Es conveniente vertebrar eficaces mecanismos de supervisión y fomentar una cultura judicial que no utilice el corporativismo para ocultar errores y desviaciones. Se reprocha muchas veces a los jueces y fiscales su falta de independencia con respecto del poder político, pero todavía es tabú señalar que su independencia y autonomía es también del poder económico y de las tentaciones de los bufetes de abogados. La ética de los jueces y fiscales, aunque se presume, más bien se evidencia hasta en los comportamientos más triviales.

Desde la perspectiva de la legislación sustantiva y procesal, nunca es recomendable hacer leyes en caliente, pero tampoco hay que hacerlas en frío, de un modo improvisado e incompetente. La compleja materia penal obliga a establecer comisiones de expertos, capaces de elaborar tipos penales correctamente cerrados y estructurados, carentes de lagunas, adecuados a la subsunción del hecho que se declara antijurídico. En los procedimientos ocurre otro tanto. Es preciso que los trámites sean simples, que la acción de la justicia no se dilate y que sus etapas no se conviertan en agujeros negros con formalismos que por su propia complejidad den pie a las nulidades y a las injusticias. No todos los abogados son iguales. Hay unos más capaces que otros y el costo por el buen servicio no puede añadir otro elemento a las ya notorias desigualdades sociales. Los jueces y fiscales no solo deben velar por los procedimientos, sino por la equidad.

El mundo se ha transformado. No debemos olvidar que la política criminal hoy debe tomar en cuenta a los comunicadores. En un mundo en el que la comunicación lo es todo, fondo y forma, no es correcto que las estrategias se canalicen de un modo inexperto.

Y es preciso también estudiar el poder y la influencia de las contranormas culturalmente asumidas. Es cierto que no debemos abusar de la retórica de los estados fallidos, pero tampoco podemos vivir a espaldas de las realidades. Si deseamos mejorarla, es esencial comprender la realidad tal cual es. De otro modo, la experiencia democrática nos arrojará a una vida triste, de sombras que aceptan con resignación vivir bajo la bandera del miedo, de cuya tiranía es la propia democracia la que nos debe liberar.
