Full plot SPOILERS: Young couple, Gemma and Tom want to purchase a house. They visit a strange estate agent, Martin. Martin tells them of a new development called Yonder. Gemma and Tom drive out to the development with Martin. The houses in Yonder are identical, suburban homes. The place is silent, empty and otherworldly. Martin shows the couple around house number nine and then vanishes. Gemma and Tom attempt to leave Yonder, but become lost. Every route returns them to number nine. The car runs out of petrol. They stay the night in number nine. The next morning, Tom climbs onto the roof of number nine to see if he can spot a way out of Yonder. He sees that the houses of Yonder seem to stretch into infinity. The couple decide to follow the artificial looking sun, hoping it will lead them out if they stay on course. The couple are led back to number nine. They find a delivery box filled with prepacked food and other necessities. A furious Tom sets number nine ablaze, hoping to attract attention. The couple falls into a strange sleep outside the house and awakes to find a tiny infant with instructions: ‘raise the child and be released. Two months pass. The infant has rapidly grown to the size of a seven-year-old boy. He incessantly demands attention and closely observes the couple when he is not absorbed by strange patterns on the television. Living with the boy and their imprisonment takes a psychological toll on the couple. Their physical well-being also worsens. Tom discovers that the soil of Yonder is made from a seemingly artificial substance. He starts to dig a hole. He becomes obsessed. The rhythm section full movie. | Christy Lemire January 31, 2020 Blake Lively gives it her all in “The Rhythm Section, ” but the movie only meets her halfway. The glamorous star gets grungy for the role of Stephanie Patrick, an ordinary young woman who transforms herself into an international assassin to avenge the killing of her family. Lively previously has shown a yearning not only for this kind of darker material, as in her standout supporting role in Ben Affleck ’s “ The Town, ” but also for the physical demands of an action film, as she did so convincingly while fighting off a great white shark in the minimalist thriller “ The Shallows. ” Advertisement She’s deeply committed and down for everything “The Rhythm Section” throws her way, often quite literally. But despite some impressively inventive camerawork from cinematographer-turned-director Reed Morano (“The Handmaid’s Tale, ” “I Think We’re Alone Now”) and a couple of intense action sequences, the film as a whole feels rushed and frustratingly empty. Although writer Mark Burnell adapted the screenplay from his 1999 novel of the same name, the story seems truncated; it’s as if he understandably wanted to include as much as possible from his source material, yet still had to work within the constraints of a reasonable running time. Giant leaps take place in terms of time and emotion, leaving us behind in confusion and rendering the human connections hollow and baffling. Lively’s British accent is a bit spotty but she makes a strong impression from the start, when her character is at her lowest. It’s been three years since Stephanie’s father, mother, sister and brother died in a plane crash—a flight she was meant to take, as well. Now, she numbs the unimaginable pain with drugs and feeds her habit by working as a prostitute at a London brothel. Morano intercuts increasingly tight close-ups of Stephanie’s face—her shaggy hair, tear-stained cheeks and swollen eyes—with snippets of brightly lit flashbacks to happier times with her family, underscoring the shocking nature of her decay. When an investigative journalist (Raza Jeffrey) tracks her down and tells her the crash was no accident but rather an act of terrorism, it lights a fire under Stephanie to take back her life by taking out the killer. “The Rhythm Section” comes from James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and it features the kind of globetrotting, espionage and tangles with an international array of bad guys you’d expect from a 007 movie. Stephanie travels from London to Northern Scotland, Madrid, New York, Tangiers and Marseille in her pursuit of justice with a variety of wigs and identities at her disposal. But the film is trying to do something different in making Stephanie’s stumbles a central part of her character. She’s not slick, she’s frequently in over her head and her missions don’t always go as planned. In fact, they never do. Lively’s vulnerability is as compelling as her raw combat skills, and Morano’s female gaze is clear-eyed rather than ogling. But somewhere along the way, Stephanie becomes too enigmatic, despite the fact that she’s on screen nearly the entire time. We know very little about who she was before the tragedy, which was by design, but even a smidgen more backstory would have made the dangerous path she forges somewhat more plausible. When the exiled MI6 agent who’d been the journalist’s informant takes her in and trains her, it makes sense, although Jude Law is solid as the gruff character known only as B. Eventually, there’s a passing reference in the script to the fact that she’s spent months with this guy at his remote hideout at the edge of a Scottish loch, yet there’s little indication that they’ve formed the kind of emotional connection that would result from that kind of intense, intimate time together. And yet a pivotal fight training scene in B’s cramped kitchen—shot in a single take—is riveting because it’s so flailing and imperfect, and because there’s nowhere to hide. Lively’s demeanor has morphed from that of a wounded animal to a scrappy predator. Later, Morano’s claustrophobic depiction of a car chase through the narrow streets of Tangiers, with cinematographer Sean Bobbitt (“ 12 Years a Slave ”) inside the vehicle, also provides a visceral jolt. Stephanie also meets up in Madrid with Sterling K. Brown ’s character, a former CIA officer who now sells the intel he gleans to the highest bidder. He’s a crucial figure in her quest, but their relationship develops in ways that are both entirely unbelievable and narratively predictable. As charismatic as Lively and Brown are individually, they aren’t afforded the opportunity to establish any real chemistry with each other. And an interlude with an arrogant and wealthy bad guy ( Max Casella) who also played a key role in the airplane attack raises way more questions than it answers. That scene is a prime example of the film’s clangy tendency toward on-the-nose needle drops to comment on the action and set the mood. As Stephanie struts down Central Park West in a disguise, stalking her prey, we hear the ironic strains of the Brenda Lee classic “I’m Sorry”; later, as Stephanie closes in on her ultimate target, Elvis Presley ’s “It’s Now or Never” plays. The title itself refers to a technique B teaches Stephanie to help her calm down and regain control during moments of panic: “Your heart is the drums, your breathing is the bass, ” he says. “The Rhythm Section” itself could have used a little bit of soul. I did enjoy Lively a lot in “A Simple Favor” from a few years back in which she acted opposite Anna Hendrick. She loves to cook and even does plenty of baking in her spare time. I even follow Blake Lively on Instagram, hence why I know she’s into culinary arts. Overall, she seems pretty cool and shows a laidback and natural personality that makes it easy for me to get behind. She was certainly the main reason and maybe the only reason why I decided to check out her latest film, “The Rhythm Section”. If you think about it, this is a rather odd name for a thriller of this kind. Right away, the best thing I can say about this film is that Blake Lively gives all her strongest efforts to make her role work and it doesn’t go unnoticed. Lively does her part in putting as much personality as she can get for her leading role as written and directed. The film as a whole unfortunately is only half-baked at best from both a conceptual and executional perspective. As best as I can describe it strictly off the cuffs, the plot centers on a young woman, played by Lively, whose family died in a tragic plane accident a few years ago. Under her emotional grieving, she becomes a prostitute for reasons not very well explained. In fact, I don’t even recall there even being a reason. One day, she comes across a mysterious man who informs her that the aforementioned plane accident was actually a terrorist attack. After said stranger is killed off from someone related to the incident, this woman decides to look up a connection that may help her solve this developing case. Her travels lead her to Dublin where a secret assassin, played by Jude Law, takes her captive and eventually trains her to become an assassin, again for reasoning I’m still unable to comprehend. And the rest of the film consists of her going after these targets and fulfilling her mission or missions depending on how you look at it. Notice my uncertainty and confusion over what the plot is about, even though I’ve simplified it to the best of my ability? That’s because the biggest problem with this film, that in my opinion hurts the film the most, is its lack of proper character development or any assemblage of world building. The film’s direction in the first half specifically is confused, as if they weren’t sure about what kind of film this was going to be. It’s never clear what our lead has been doing in the years since the plane accident. I don’t know why she ended up being a prostitute before she goes on this central crusade, even though she could have arguably found a better circumstance for herself anywhere else. It doesn’t make sense why Jude Law treating Blake Lively like a prisoner is considered a charming/quirky character trait or a method to his bizarre training. The film fails to explain many abrupt or random details like the ones I described. The aspect of the film that best summarizes the experience in a nutshell would have to be the music. You see, it’s done well, but at times it feels a tad inappropriate for the situation at hand. The potential is there, I’m just not sure that it’s utilized correctly. And that’s my dominant sentiment towards “The Rhythm Section” and why I’m giving it the score that I am. There are inspired tidbits every once in a while. Lively has an amusing counterattack in her training with Law when he’s training for a heated car chase, she puts one car in reverse that’s easily the funniest part of the film. There’s also a car chase that Lively finds herself in where it all takes place within one shot and you’re looking from the perspective of the co-pilot seat. You see all the angles you want to see from the front to the back to the driver. This makes the chase sequence more convincing and I at least appreciate that scene for what it is. There at times later on in the film where I’m thinking to myself, I could see individual things such as Blake Lively as an action heroine and a few choice scenes working better if the film surrounding them were more carefully constructed. As it is though, “The Rhythm Section” is a regrettably half-baked product were some of the ingredients mesh together fine at the expense of an incomplete script and an indecisive vision. … Expand.

Phoenix, oregon scientific. Phoenix 2c oregon today. It's a darn good movie. No chase scenes or special effects, just a good plot, great character actors, and an interesting setting. The movie offers a believable story, a message that is not trite, and more than a few good laughs along the way. I suspect we will hear much more about this movie as it gets exposure, but go and see it as soon as you get a chance.

Plot When her younger brother Charlie unexpectedly disappears into the magical, animated universe of Playmobil, unprepared Marla must go on a quest of a lifetime to bring him home. As she sets off on a fantastic journey across stunning new worlds, Marla teams up with some unlikely and heroic new friends - the smooth-talking food truck driver Del, the dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher, a wholehearted misfit robot, an extravagant fairy-godmother and many more. Through their vibrant adventure, Marla and Charlie realize that no matter how life plays out, you can achieve anything when you believe in yourself. Why It Sucks The entire movie is nothing but a blatant rip-off of The Lego Movie GMW, shamelessly copying not just the concept, but even story elements, tone, certain characteristics of the protagonists, and set locations. And unlike The Lego Movie, which managed to have a genuine story and message, Playmobil: The Movie is purely an advertisement for Playmobil products. Poor marketing in the United States, as only two trailers were released and a few posters that paint Rex Dasher as the main protagonist, not to mention the trailers were incredibly vague about the actual plot. It was also released in the United States when Frozen 2 GMW, a big scale release that dominated the box office. The marketing seemed to be stronger in other territories. The combination of animation and live-action is completely pointless, considering that we never get to see anything live-action after the first ten minutes until the very end. Marla can be an extremely unlikable protagonist at times. The soundtrack, besides Run Like A River, are nothing but generic songs with formulaic lessons and meanings. Charlie, Marla's brother, is a viking in the Playmobil world, which is ridiculous because in real life, he is just a child, and even sounds like a child. This could be because he grabbed the viking figurine before entering the world, but even that doesn't make much sense since Marla looks exactly the same as she did in the real world. The songs are obviously shoved in at the last second; this is most apparent with songs like "Brothers In Arms" where all it does is describe what is currently happening on-screen. The Fairy Godmother character only exists to sing a musical number which doesn't even match the scene and only serves as soundtrack fodder. The movie begins with a massive tonal problem, as it goes immediately from Marla singing a cutesy little musical number to finding out her parents died with no time to breathe. Speaking of the Playmobil world, there is basically nothing in that world that feels like anything like a Playmobil product. Everything seems like reality, and even the Playmobil figures feel more like human beings than actual figures. However, this is because the world is based on a toy museum. None of those are Playmobil-related in real life, but in the world, everything is Playmobil. The way Marla and Charlie enter the Playmobil world is dumb, and it is never even explained how or why the lighthouse in the toy convention is magical. Marla and Charlie's parents' deaths are never brought up again after just one moment. The fact that the movie is based on Playmobil is mostly treated as an afterthought since the animated world is treated mostly like any other animated world in contrast to The Lego Movie, which took full advantage of the limitless nature of the toys. It is filled to the brim with unfunny jokes that literally make no sense. At times, they'll make jokes even in the most unnecessary situations. Some plot elements are never explained, such as how Marla got the gold in the first place and the aforementioned lighthouse mystery. The plot is absolutely absurd. At first, it's about two people dealing with Playmobil, then Marla, the sister, has to rescue her brother, then she meets up with some random guy who suddenly becomes one of the main characters, and from there, it continuously switches up genres, making it extremely confusing. Redeeming Qualities Despite never being mentioned again, Marla and Charlie's parents' death is a strong way to open the film. The animation is at least decent. The characters faces are cute, and the environments are colorful. Great voice acting. Even Anya Taylor-Joy's singing in the opening number is really powerful. Run Like A River is an okay song, despite how poorly-integrated into the movie it is. Adam Lambert does at least offer a fun performance. An awesome Cameo of an EV called the Porsche Taycan Reception The film was poorly received by critics, who found it to be an unimaginative clone of The Lego Movie with cliche characters and writing. The film has a 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition, it proved to be a major box-office bomb, similar to another STX production, UglyDolls, in the United States, grossing only 13. 5 million worldwide against a 40 million budget. Many factors caused this, such as the aforementioned lack of marketing (a budget of 3 million was put into advertising) and Frozen 2 being a big hit, and the fact that it was released months earlier in other countries. It was reported that theaters sold tickets for only five dollars, meaning that they didn't have much faith in the movie doing well. It also has the fourth worst box-office opening of all time in over 2, 000 theaters, and the worst opening in over 2, 300 theaters (660, 000, averaging 280 per theatre. For comparison, Arctic Dogs, which opened in over 2, 800 theaters, grossed 2. 9 million on its opening weekend, averaging 1, 020 per theatre.
